Over the years, I’ve been a brunette, a blonde and a redhead. My hair has become an utter mess due to constant experimentation with it, and I’ve been hating it for awhile now.
I was trying to grow my natural hair colour out, in the hopes that I would have long, healthy, natural hair in time for my graduation. Or, at the very least, have natural hair that a hairdresser could transform in November, in time for my birthday and master’s graduation. But spending months scraping my hair back into a bun to hide the ever-growing mess was another thing that was starting to grate on my confidence.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on building my confidence, something I will blog about later on, and it got me thinking predominantly about my appearance.
I started really noticing the layers of dye in photos, with a few inches of my natural colour, a chocolate brown in the middle and the remnants of the dark brown I had dyed it in time for my undergraduate graduation last year. It really made me realise how much I hated my hair and how low my confidence was due in part to my hair.
I had been going for job interviews, meetings and even just vlogging and feeling really self-conscious due to my messed up hair because of its’ colour and desperate need for a cut.
That’s when I realised it was time to become a redhead again.
Becoming a Redhead- The Process
I first went into the hairdressers to discuss a course of action for my hair. I originally wanted to do that whole gorgeous brunette and blonde balayage that I have seen everywhere. However, the hairdresser then took me through the process I’d have to go through and the price was definitely going to be way way out of my student budget!
So, I went straight out and into Superdrug and got some bleach, toner and hair dye. In previous years, I have bleached my hair at home before, and it wasn’t a complete disaster so I felt confident giving it a go again.
I vlogged the whole process so please do watch the video below (and pop over to my Youtube channel if you’re interested).
The Results
To say I am pleased with the results of my little hair experiment is an understatement. I umm-ed and ahh-ed over which ‘red’ to go and I’m so glad I didn’t go for the more subtle shade! I’m 24, about to finish university and this may be the last summer I can have wild colourful hair before adult life takes over!
I’ve got blue mermaid nails, bright red hair and I’ve never felt more like Ariel in my life and I am LOVING it. The next morning when I woke up, I literally sat like Ariel and played with it, I couldn’t get over how vibrant the colour was!
I am so pleased with how this turned out and I can’t wait to take more photos for the blog now I’m happy with my hair.
