Hot chocolate is something a lot of people like to indulge in. A nice warm, sweet drink at the end of the day before bed or maybe with a good book.
I will confess I’ve never been a fan. I tried it once as a kid and hated it. I then moved to York, which has a chocolate factory and we used to be able to smell burning chocolate in the air when we were outside and the smell lingered and linked to hot chocolate for me.
I have to admit, I wish I could drink it. I feel I might curb the amount of actual chocolate I eat, if I drank some! It’s an odd thing, but sometimes I can feel a bit left out when everyone has their tea, coffee or hot chocolate. I’m not a particular fan of hot drinks really and in my flask in the mornings, I tend to have soup, a quick and healthy breakfast on-the-go.
However, when TastePR got in touch and offered some BioGlan SuperGreen powders to try, I said yes.
As I’m trying to lose weight and press ahead with my health and fitness journey. I was aware that the biggest change had to be to my diet.
I had heard a lot about superfoods, powders and supergreens. They’ve been hailed allover the internet as a wonderful way to get your 5 a day.
I DO NOT eat my 5 a day. AT ALL. So, I tried it!
I have three lovely packets kindly sent to me by TastePR and Bioglan, but I have to admit the green powders weren’t really for me. I’d drink them for the sake of getting the goodness out of them. It took about 3 or 4 days of drinking it to get used to the taste.
I tried drinking green drinks of cold water and the powder and I would have to down it just to drink it- I wasn’t a fan. So those packets sat for awhile on the shelf whilst I made a more serious effort with the Cacao Boost powder.
I looked the product up on Holland and Barrett and found many raving reviews and recipe ideas from reviewers, some stating that they mixed the powder with hot water rather than cold.
This makes a really sweet and delicious ‘hot chocolate’ drink. That is A LOT healthier than real hot chocolate.
These powders contain more than your 5 a day but to be honest, they are quite expensive for the amount in the bags. On my current budget, I would not be able to afford these regularly, but I would buy them if I could! I felt so much healthier (but in a naughty way) for being able to have the sweet taste of chocolate with the goodness of greens!
Overall, the drinks made aren’t expensive. With each bag having 10 servings in, you get 10 days worth of powder/drink for one person. Which roughly works out at £2 a drink on an average price. So not a lot, compared to what people pay for similar drinks from health shops, or coffee shops when they are out and about. But for me, on a student budget it is a little too much of a stretch to purchase enough for a steady supply.
However, if you can afford it, it really is worth the money. I felt very healthy, started each day I used it off to a good start with porridge and hot chocolate and I could even have a hot drink in bed when Andrew had his actual hot chocolate when we were watching a film!
So all in all, a good product but perhaps a little too pricey for me!
Have you tried any Superfoods? Would you give this powder a try?
