Cafes of the North East: Cake Stories at Hoults Yard

This is my first post in a series of cafe reviews I’ll be bringing to my blog! We are now visiting a lot more of them than before and I thought why not add them to my blog!

If you’re a fan of good cafe food, you need to visit Cake Stories at Hoults Yard. You might have already heard of Cake Stories as they have another cafe in Jesmond, Newcastle and one in Gateshead. They also do pretty epic looking “Letterbox Bakes’– where you can get brownies and cakes through your door! Which I have to admit sounds an absolutely lush gift!

We visited with our friends for a nice afternoon of catching up, coffee and cake and i’ll be visiting again and keeping an eye out for their other cafes.

Located in Hoults Yard in Byker, Newcastle, there’s ample parking outside of the cafe. They have container lounges so you can sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and the cool decor. Don’t forget to take a snap of the cool wall mural.

The menu consists of breakfast options, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and so many lush cake options! I decided to opt for a sausage sandwich (made with local Northumberland sausage, which is a big tick in the box for me, I love eating at places that use local products).

Rob had a good nosey in the drinks fridge and was impressed by the selection of beers on offer. He helped himself to a sausage sandwich too and a vanilla latte.

And to finish off the day, we all tucked into different cakes and brownies. I went for the red velvet cake and it was amazing and a really decent price for the amount you get! Rob went for one of their chocolate cakes that had a cadburys creme egg on top, I’m told it was really good!

The inside is all brick with some pretty cool and eccentric art and decor, making it a really fun, colourful place to sit and have a coffee or some lunch. It has such a nice chilled vibe! There are a few tables located down a short flight of stairs, where all the tables have mismatched chairs (one is even a church pew or a long bench by the looks of it!) which I think all add to the lovely charm of the place. It fits in really well with all the other businesses located at Hoults Yard.
