Schwartz Spaghetti Carbonara Mix

Cooking has never been my forte, but it is something I want to learn more about. When Schwartz reached out to me asking me if I would like to try their Spaghetti Carbonara Mix I was excited to give it a go!

In the three years we’ve dated, I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve cooked for me and Rob. So with 2020 arriving soon and with it our 4th year of dating and me turning 27, I thought it was about time that I put ‘put more effort into learning to cook’ as one of my 2020 resolutions!

Rob does 99.9% of the cooking at home, it’s something he loves to do! Even after a 12 hour shift! But it makes me feel super guilty when he cooks all the time and i’m too scared to. It’s something I’ve never had much confidence in as I always manage to mess up the recipes, leave things on too long or once I accidentally burned a plastic bag to the bottom of my frying pan as a student ( Don’t ask!) When I’m in the kitchen, I want to get my food made as quick as possible and with the smallest amount of effort- so that I don’t mess it up! So I was quite excited to try using the sachet mix to see if it made cooking easier for me.

Spaghetti Carbonara is one of my favourite dishes. I’ve loved it since I was a child and I always find it a simple and easy go to meal. It’s super filling, creamy and you can add to it with bacon or chicken to give it even more flavour.

Anyway, onto the recipe!

The Review

schwartz spaghetti carbonara mix review student meals

I REALLY enjoyed the taste of this spaghetti carbonara! As someone who’s not a confident cook, I found the instructions super simple to follow. We didn’t add mushrooms as we don’t like them but I can only assume they add even more flavour to this creamy, rich meal. I’m useless at knowing what spices or flavour to add to meals so having a mix packet with black pepper, parsley and oregano in it, made cooking far easier and TASTIER than the probably over-flavoured meal I’d have made!

The mix packet and recipe serves four and we were starving and managed to eat two portions each and it was amazing. I love good food and this was definitely one of those meals. I’ve added picking up more spaghetti carbonara mix to my shopping list to keep on our spice rack. I’m definitely going to have a look at their other mixes to see what other recipes I can try in the new year!
